Paying the Rent is Easier with a Higher Paying Job

Articles for Tenants
Tenants that struggle to pay the rent each month because they are stuck in either a low paying job or in a part-time position can benefit from the services offered by local self-help employment offices. New funding for programs designed to train workers in skilled trades or for medical positions has been awarded by the Federal Government and partnered with services provided by Provincial initiatives.

One of the programs being supported is designed to assist in the training and skills development of new Canadians. Monique Beech reports in The St. Catharines Standard that the Employment Help Centre has received a portion of the $27.4-million package announced by the Ontario Citizenship and Immigration Minister, Michael Chan. The Province of Ontario will have a total of $8.1 million of the package with $380,000 to help run the Centre on Queenston St. in St. Catharines.

This kind of government effort can have a positive impact on the employment stability of those in our community looking to get ahead. An individual working two jobs just to cover the rent can suffer from stress, fatigue and general anxiety. When these hard working people have a chance to gain the kind of skill that will help them to make significant contributions in the workforce, everyone benefits.

Employers will have access to workers that have been educated for specific positions and who are motivated to develop on a day to day basis. This takes a great deal of pressure off of small business that generally cannot afford to train staff from scratch. Skilled people can earn more money because they have a greater impact on a company’s ability to generate profits. An untrained employee requires more supervision, makes more mistakes in tasks and is far less productive than someone that has been educated effectively for the position.

Workers that can generate a stronger, more stable income as a result of practical job training can create a more comfortable lifestyle for themselves and their families. They can manage their expenses easier and likely have the ability to start saving for a down-payment on their own home. Tenants with steady work and income are very appealing to landlords. And for a tenant, being able to cover housing costs without working 60 hrs a week in multiple jobs is an exciting accomplishment.
